Centenary (Switzerland)

Regional Thematic Article

 • Your article should primarily focus on the centenary and the legacy of the war not on the history or events of the war itself. Please keep the historical background to a minimum • The article should address as many aspects of official and unofficial commemoration as possible (exhibitions, conferences, parades, theatre, documentaries, etc.) • It should address the political, cultural, and social trends in commemorative activities and practices • In contrast to our “Commemoration – Cult of the Fallen” articles, this section focuses on contemporary not historical commemoration • Your article is intended for a general as well as specialist audience. Please do not assume too much background knowledge of diverse locales Some other questions you might want to consider: • Were commemorative events state driven or popular initiatives? • Did commemoration occur on a regional/local or national level? • Where did commemoration take place? (gallery, museum, internet, school, monuments, historiography (op-ed, scholarly articles, lectures)) • How/how much were centenary events funded? • Did the centenary create any changes in memory? • Was there popular interest in the Centenary? Were there public debates? • Who were the ‘memory agents’ behind the commemoration and what was their personal investment?
