Centenary (Archives)

Survey Article (Thematic)

For your discussion of the centenary, we ask you to keep in mind the following:

• Please discuss how archives engaged with the centenary
• You can discuss lectures, conferences, digitization projects, special public exhibitions as well new collections
• The article should address as many aspects of as well as trends and narratives in archival activities and practices as possible
• Your article should focus solely on the centenary and the contemporary legacy of the war, not on First World War archives before 2014
• Please apply a transnational perspective and address as many geographical areas of relevance as possible
• Your article is intended for a general as well as specialist audience. Please do not assume too much background knowledge.

Some other questions you might want to consider:

– Who were the ‘memory agents’ behind the engagement with the centenary and what was their personal investment?
– How was archival centenary engagement funded?
– How much money was available?
– Did commemoration occur on local, regional, national or transnational levels?
– Was there popular interest in the centenary?
– Did the centenary create any changes in archival practices?
